Joys Of Parenting vol. (4.5 * 365 = 1642)

Child leaving for day care. Wants gloves. I’d very stupidly brought down what even then I suspected might be his mother’s gloves the day before. Today she is wearing them and is in no mood to lend. Micro villain starts to sulk and slams door on way out. ‘Bad Daddy’ etc. Not the worst exit of all time, blood pressure only 10-15% higher than previously, but part and parcel of the joys of parenting.

The little creatures are quite emotional. They often go off before you have time to intervene and steer them to calmer pastures. Sometimes there are no such pastures. The whining or screaming starts, your own fight or flight starts pumping adrenaline, and then everyone has to burn off the hormones and file away/cogitate the grievances just to get back to a semblance of normal.

These are the stresses of parenting. The day to day stuff that has nothing to do with big issues – are they healthy? Will the world end? The stress of constant skirmishing, that strains every relationship in the nuclear unit and threatens to be more fissile than enriched uranium.
